central jail" released on February 11, 2001

A total of 9,300 people have been detained in the
Dhaka central jail (DCJ) against its capacity of
2,623 people. DCJ has arrangement for 84 female
detainees while at present 273 women are detained
inside the jail.

Comparing its capacity with the number of prisoners
detained, the BSEHR report observed that juvenile
prisoners and those who are kept in jail's safe
custody are influenced by convicted and notorious
criminals.
