Last year I went to work on an Orphanage. That’s the place where the interest to work on children grew in me. I was interested working on children in a society that has been fundamentally hierarchical in structure. I have observed from last years visit to orphanage and this year’s visit to Intellectual disable school, the children at these places are being brought up differently.
There is a school for intellectually disabled children at 1/1, Block-E, Lalmatia,Satmasjid Road,Dhaka, where 14 children are being taught in the (2-5) noon shift. Most of them are from Mohammadpur Biharee Camp. Dilara Shattar Mitu, the owner of this trust. My mind was occupied with many questions about these 14 kids. When I asked Mitu what sort of children they are, she replied “They have to be taught what fire and water is, which is good or which is bad.”
When we read fairy tales, the presence of heroic characters that we get there are like us. They are strong both mentally and physically. Before starting the work, I thought when these children listen to fairy tales; they also like to think of themselves as the heroes or heroines of the story.
