Democracywatch-
a research and human rights organization started a
project with the assistance of the British High Commission
for Journalist Training on Human Rights from 6th June
2002. The objective of the project are:
Develop a syllabus to help journalists in reporting
HR situation in Bangladesh particularly HR violation,
so that their reports are accurate, balanced and have
some positive impact in the society. Train some journalists
on HR reporting and thereby help advancement of public
awareness about democractic rights and responsibilities.
Help creation of better informed parliamentarians,
political leaders and workers and public in general.
The
project has been worked out, a syllabus has been developed,
training course has been designed by drawing on the
rich experiences of:
Mediapersons who have experiences national and international
media. Practicing lawyers who have been advocating
for HR
Working journalists and Educationists who have organised
and conducted workshops.

The
next Training Session will be held on December 10
to 12, 2002. Barrister Moinul Hossain, President of
the editorial board of the Daily Ittefaq will inaugurate
the program.
Ms
Rosalind Marsden, Head of Asia and Pacific region,
Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British High
Commission will be present on the occasion. Mrs Taleya
Rehman, Executive Director, Democracywatch, will welcome
the guests and will deliver her welcome speech.
