|
| |
Munira Begum, a dowry victim from Jessore district along with her parents has compelled to take shelter in Dhaka as her in-laws hired armed cadres to kill them for their failure to meet the dowry money.
Following the repeated life-threat, victim, who hails from Murlimor under Kotwali thana in Jessore, along with her mother and father Ekramul Haq Zoardar, a microbus driver, fled Jessore nine days back and took shelter in a residential hotel in the city.
On Friday, Ekramul and her victim daughter Munira narrated their agony at a press conference at Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association.
Ekramul said, Munira's cruel husband Kamrul Morol and his family members tortured her inhumanly for dowry.
"Not only Kamrul, his brothers - Anarul and Mafizur - sister Manjura Khatun, mother in-law Zahirun Nesa and father-in-law Wajed Ali also tortured my daughter physically and mentally," Ekramul said.
"Kamrul hacked various parts of the body of my daughter with sharp blade. He also kicked down my daughter when she was carrying five-month baby killing the foetus in womb," father of the victim added.
The vulnerable father said: As my daughter protested the matter and filed a case with the Speedy Trial Tribunal against her cruel husband Kamrul, he attacked our house. The listed criminals of outlawed Sarbahara Party – Bhola, Tarun, Dabu, Badsha and Kala Mintu – led the attack.
"Withdraw the case, otherwise we will kill all the family members," they shouted and following such threat Ekramul left Jessore.
Munira got married with Kamrul, son of Wajed Morol of Murapara village under Jhikargacha upazila, some 18 months ago. "I gave Tk 1.5 lakh, 10 tolas of gold ornaments, colour television, bicycle and other valuables to her (Munira) husband as dowry," claimed Ekramul
"But, 15 days after the marriage, Kamrul further demanded Tk two lakh. As I failed to meet his demand, Kamrul beat my daughter inhumanly and cut different parts of my daughter's body with sharp blade. He also drove my daughter out of his house," Ekramul narrated.
The pale-looking father said: We filed a case under Speedy Trial against Kamrul and his family members. Later, police arrested Kamrul and his brother Anwar Hossain. After being released, they started threatening us and also pressuring me to withdraw the case."
Ekramul also blamed the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case - Sub Inspector Billal Hossain – for taking Tk 30 thousand as bribe for him.
"The IO is demanding Tk 30 thousand more but reluctant to nab the criminals," Ekramul added.
When contacted, Billal Hossain denied the allegation saying that the criminals would be brought into book within a week.
