The government has imposed ban on the use of cell phones in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) areas on security grounds. |

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) authorities recently issued a circular banning the use of cell phones in CHT.
A government official preferring anonymity Sunday said that they have already received the letter on the government decision of banning the use of mobile phones in the areas.
Earlier, the call centres of cell phones launched through antennas have been closed down by different intelligent agencies in Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts.
Sources concerned said though whole Bangladesh has been brought under mobile network, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khgrachhari districts have been kept out of the mobile network on an excuse of security.
The owners of the call centres of cell phones in CHT areas said that they are yet to receive the government's direction.
Local people alleged that not only the people of CHT but people coming from other parts of the country and abroad, and government officials and businessmen of the area would be deprived of the modern communication system by the government decision.
